Thread: sum of 3 heights perpendicular to the 3 sides ?

The sides of a triangle are:
a = 12 cm., b = 10 cm, c = 8 cm

What is the sum of the 3 heights each perpendicular to the 3 sides ?

The answer is 24.27. I think I can solve it if I understood the problem. But I can't, I am from a non-English speaking country. Maybe struggling with how the sentence was constructed. Could someone help me out ?

Please refer to the attached figure. From the vertices of the traingle draw perpendiculars to it's sides. You have to find the sum of these three perpendiculars. i.e: AF+BE+CD

Hi dugongster,
use the following formula to find area

s= 1/2 of perimeter A = area
A= sqrt of s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c) where abc are the sides
write three equations for area using a different side and its correponding altitude .Calculate the lenghts of each altitude and add them
