
Stripping a cone
For a design project I want to take a cone and have a strip running all the way round it in a candy cane type way. For a cylinder this would be easy, just a straight strip but that would create an uneven pattern on a cone so I need a curved strip.
Does anyone know a formula for this taking account of the top and bottom circumferences of the cone?

I don't know if an equation will help you much, but the parametric equations x = t*cos(t), y = t*sin(t), z = t will describe what you want where the tip of the cone is at the xyplane and flares out from there. If you want to cut off the tip of the cone, so to speak, just start your parameter above 0. If you want to adjust the steepness of the cone's angle, multiply your x and y by a constant.
