"A rectangular plot of land, 12m by 10m hs a path of width 4m all around it, find the area of the path."

You can divide the added path into 4 sections:

The top and bottom, plus the 2 sides. It helps if you draw a picture.

You can say the top and bottom's area = \$\displaystyle (12 + 4 + 4) * 4 * 2\$

You can say that the 2 sides' area = \$\displaystyle 10*4 * 2\$

Do you know what to do now?

No we will not. We are not a homework service. You need to show that you have made some effort to attempt this problem and show exactly where you are stuck.

Dear Winsome,

Take a look at pictures on your walls.Sketch a similar picture but insert the inside picture dimensions to 12x10 and then calculate the outside dimensions of the picture frame. You take it from there.
