    Perimeter/length of a yard

    John and mary smith want to put up a fence around their rectangular yard. There is a gate that is 2.99m which is not included in the length of the fence. What total length is needed to enclose the rectangular yard whose sides are 32.1m and 51.6m? 1m=3.281ft

    The perimeter of a rectangle with length L and width W is
    P = 2L + 2W.

    The length of the yard is L = 51.6 m, and the width is W = 32.1 m. Plug these values into the equation above. But we are also told that a gate of length 2.99 m is NOT included in the length of the fence. Once you get the perimeter P, subtract 2.99, and you will have your answer.
