    Circle and Square

    I got some questions that i just don't understand. Hopefully you guys can give me the answer and explain it for me? XD

    1. A square sheet of tin is 14m on a side. What is the area of the largest circular disc that can be cut from this sheet? (Use 3/1/2 for pi)

    2. A circular flower bed in a park is 18m in diameter. a) What is its area? b) Allowing 1/1/2 sq m for each plant, how many plants will be required for the flower bed? (use 3/1/2 for pi)

    Thanks!

    1) [See the enclosed picture]
    A = Pi x r^2
    = 3,5 x 49
    = 171,5

    2.a) If the diameter = 18 then the radius = 9
    A = Pi x r^2
    = 3,5 x 81
    = 283,5

    2.b) The number of plants:
    283,5 / 1,5 = 189 plants
