Finding sides of a Triangle

I don't understand this question, it isn't making any sense to me

The short side of an isosceles triangle is one half the length of the equal sides, If the perimeter is 8.5cm, what are the lengths of the three sides of the triangle?

did you make a sketch ?

let the longer sides = \$\displaystyle 2x\$ each

short side = \$\displaystyle x\$

\$\displaystyle x + 2x + 2x = 8.5\$

Yes i made a sketch, i was looking at the one-half and putting it down as a fraction. They make these problems so confusing.
