    help plz

    May someone help me solve this problem.

    In a circle whose diameter is 20 inches, a chord is 6 inches from the center. What is the length of the chord?

    I do not understand this problem.

    Hello, JayJay,

    I've attached an image of the situation:

    length of chord = 2s

    Use the Pythagoran theorem:

    r = s + 6 with r = 10'' because r is the half diameter:

    100 = s + 36 ===> s = 64 ===> s = 8''

    Therefore the length of the chord is 16''
