1. Geometrically you want to know the length of the diagonal of a square.
Let s denote the length of one side of the square and A the area of the square.
Then
$\displaystyle s = \sqrt{A}$
According to Pythagorean theorem the length of the diagonal is:
$\displaystyle d = \sqrt{s^2+s^2} = \sqrt{2A}$
2. Since the speed is $\displaystyle \dfrac{distance}{elapsed\ time}$ the traveling time is:
$\displaystyle time=\dfrac{distance}{speed}$
