    Circular Courtyard

A circular courtyard has an area of 10 2x^2. There are two rectangular flower beds in the courtyard. Which of the following expressions represents the green lawn area.

    (A)....(10 2x^2) (2x^2 + 3x^2)= 10 + 3x^2
    (B)....(10 2x^2) 2x^2 3x^2 = 10 7x^2
    (C)....(10 2x^2) 2x^2 3x^2 = 10 3x^2

What is the answer? A, B or C?

    NOTE:

There is a picture of a cicular garden and inside the garden there are two rectangles.

One rectangle has the following dimensions: Length = 2x; Width = x.

The other rectangle has: Length = 3x and Width = x.

    Hello,

the LHS of the three equations are allways the same:

    (10-2x^2)-(2x^2+3x^2)=10-2x^2-2x^2-3x^2=10 -2x^2 -5x^2 = 10- 7x^2

    Thus answer (B).
