This is a Combination problem.
The order in which he selects (and answers) the questions does not matter.
We are simply selecting 8 objects from 10 objects.
This number is: /$\displaystyle _{10}C_8 \:=\:{10\choose8} \:=\:\frac{10!}{8!\,2!} \;=\;45$
