prove for all integers m and n, if m and m + n are even, then n is even.

I have another example I wanted to go over
for rational numbers x, if x doesn't equal 0, then 1/x is rational.
As I understand rational numbers, the are 0 and beyong and everywhere inbetween. But what other properties do they possess that I can use to prove this?
