    Unhappy Writing a bit pattern

Can someone please help me understand this, I cannot even figure out where to begin.

Assuming an 18 bit word length and a 7 bit exponent, write the bit pattern for 00046.512 assuming 2s complement exponents and binary normalization.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

First have you turned 46.512 into binary?

You will need the twelve most significant bits. Drop the most significant one and that leaves you with the 11 bits of the normallised mantisa.

I will lwave the exponent to you to work out
