The problem is this
Mickey,Katie and Akeem all got jobs at Bert's garden centre. Their job is to sell turf to people that need a new lawn. At the end of the first month they checked their expected wage, and surprisingly they were all the same. It was surprising because they were paid 50p for every square metre of turf that was sold, but they all sold a variety of sizes of lawn. Mickey said 'I only sold one square lawn and four other rectangular lawns I don't remember how large they were, but i did not have to cut any squares of turf, and i should be paid the same for each of the 5 lawns.'
Katie said 'I sold one square lawn and four rectangular lawns too. I should also be paid the same for each of my lawns. My square lawn is the same size as yours Mickey, but all of my rectangular lawns are different sizes to yours. I also did not have to cut any squares of turf. The only other thing i remember is that one of my rectangular lawns was 72m long.'
Akeem said ' I laid one square lawn and four rectangular lawns too. I should also be paid the same for each lawn. My square lawn is the same size as both of yours, but all of my rectangular lawns ar different sizes to yours. I also did not have to cut any squares of turf. The only other thing I remember is that one of my rectangular lawns was 54m long.
'Well', said Bert who is a mathematical genius, ' I think that between you, you must have laid every possible rectangular and square lawn that you can for the same pay without cutting turf. Well done, but you must have found some strange shaped gardens! Fortunately I have worked out how much you have each earned, so here are your wages. How much did Bert pay each of his workers?
