if a is in Q how would i show that f(a) is the remainder after dividing the polynomial f(x) by (x-a)?

If [LaTeX ERROR: Convert failed] is a polynomial of degree $n$ in $x$, dividing by $(x-a)$ leaves a quotient $G(x)$ of degree $n-1$ with remainder $R$ (a constant). That is [LaTeX ERROR: Convert failed] . If you put $x = a$, you will get $f(a) = R$.
