    What does "|" and "->" mean?

    1)Use mathematical induction to prove that
    5 | ( 8n 3n )
    for all nonnegative integers n.
    2)

    All i would like to know is the meaning of "|" and "->" .

    a\mid b= "a divides b", meaning b=ac , for some c in some ring (usually the integers)

    --> means "implies": A --> B means "if A then B" or "A implies B"
