# Thread: Convert to english and determine truth value

1. ## Convert to english and determine truth value

ƎxER(x^3 = - 1)
I need to convert this to english and determine the truth value.

There exists an x that is a Real Number. The truth value is 1 (true)
Can someone tell me if this is right?

There exists a real number x such that $x^3=-1$. So, your truth value should be some real number that satisfies $x^3=-1$.
It is not 1 because $1^3=1$

I think you are misunderstanding "truth" value. Since Mapleleafs89 says "The truth value is 1 (true)", he is clearly assigning "1" to any true statement and some other number (probably 0) to any false statement. The statement is true, and so its "truth value" is 1, because this there is such a real number. The fact that the value happens to be -1 doesn't affect the "truth value".
