Can't seem to be able to solve the below problem and I don't have any solved examples in my text books.

(a) Explain why the graph of the function lies below the x-axis for 2 < x < 3 and above the x-axis for 3 < x < 5.

(b) Use this fact to ﬁnd the area enclosed by the graph and the x-axis
between x = 2 and x = 5, giving your answer to four decimal places

It finally clicked, lol. So I try some values in the intervals to see which are positive and which are negative

You should not need to "try some values":you should know, from the definition of "logarithm", that ln(x) is negative for 0< x< 1, positive for x> 1.
