# min/max distance problem

min/max distance problem
g'day,

I am supposed to show that
max(x,y) = m + d/2 with m = (x+y) / 2 and d = | y - x |

any ideas would be appreciated :-)

If $y\ge x$ then $|y-x|=y-x$
If $y< x$ then $|y-x|=x-y$
