# Thread: General Solution of Laplace Equation Uxx + Uyy = 0

1. ## General Solution of Laplace Equation Uxx + Uyy = 0

This is my problem Uxx + Uyy = 0 and i want the general solution of it.

Please if someone can help me ?????

3. ## Re: General Solution of Laplace Equation Uxx + Uyy = 0

but i don't understad why i will use "separation" constant k^2 and not only k?

And if possible is any general solution without solving with the method of separation variables???

you use $k^2$ as a separation constant so that the solutions involve a factor of $k$ and not $\sqrt{k}$.

My quick browse of google showed everyone assuming the solutions are either separable in $x$ and $y$ or they solved the LE in non-Cartesian coordinates.

ok i will try with k^2 . Thank you for your reply
