# Thread: So lost on legendre ode

1. ## So lost on legendre ode

I have been given extra credit that I need to complete very much so.
Although, it deals with the legendre equation. The problem is that series really kicked my butt in calc 2, so now I am struggling very much with this and the other series solution stuff in this DE class.

Question: Use the method of series to solve the legendre equation with alpha=3.

So; I plugged in the assumed series soln..
what happens to the (1-x^2) in front, the -2x in front of yprime, and the 12 in front of y?

Extra credit work is meant to be your work, not the work of others. See MHF rule #6.

I suggest you go to your library and find a book that covers this material (most books with the words "Advanced Engineering Mathematics" will have it).
