Heat Diffusion
A 50lbs iron ball is heated to 200F and dropped into a container of 100lbs of water with a temperature of 40 degrees. The specific heat of iron is .11. What's the function of temperature of the ball, in terms of time?
What I really need to know is: What is the initial quantity of heat? My a priori guess would have been 50(200) since temperature is like amount of heat in a unit quantity of substance, so the product of that with the number of units gives total quantity of heat. That's probably wrong, and I'm guessing the total initial quantity of heat is actually 50(.11)(200) but I don't get why.
