    optimzation problem #10

    A rectangular piece of cardboard 100 cm by 40 cm is to be used to make a rectangular box with an open top. Find the dimensions to one decimal place for the box with the largest volume.

    I can't seem to find a relationship between the dimensions given and variables as length width and height for volume....

    this classic problem is so old, even Newton had to do it.
