Thread: slope of a tangent line

Hello, I have finals over a few calculus concepts covered in pre-calc class in a couple of days. Here are a few problems I would like solved with the written step by step process. Not trying to cheat or anything i just want to have the step by step process so it is clearer in my mind, especially since i need a decent score on the test. thx.

1) Find the slope of the tangent line to the graph of Y=5x^2-3x+8 at the point (0,8)

2)find the slope of the tangent line to the graph of Y=1/x at the point (1,1)

On problem with your not showing any work is that I have no idea how you would be expected to do this yourself. I know several ways to do this of differing "sophistication" and difficulty but I don't know which is appropriate for you.

oh, o.k can you do it in the easiest way possible. We just started covering calculus topics last week.
