# Math Help - confusing Optimization problem:S

1. ## confusing Optimization problem:S

Carl is installing cable at a new house. The main cable is on another street, part of the cable will cross the lawn to a street in front of the house, the rest of the cable will be installed inside a conduit to connect to the main cable on the other street. The house is 12m away from the conduit at the closest point. The other street is another 50m along the conduit line, it costs 4.50$per metre to install across the front lawn it costs 1.80$ per meter to install cable in the conduit. Determine the point on the conduit where the cable should be connected from the house.

This question is really confusing to me and ive ever done a cost Optimization problem, as well ive tried doing it and im getting really wacky awnsers

Start by drawing a diagram, see the attachment, the dashed line is the cable to be installed, the horizontal part is in the conduit and the other part is under the lawn.
