Finding Max and Min on Scientific Calculator

I have a very general question here. I am wondering how to use my calculator to either find the max/min of a given function (Which I doubt I can do with a simple scientific calculator), or to PROVE that a certain set of numbers are in fact maximum/minimum of a given function. I would think that I could only complete the latter of the two on a scientific calculator... But I want to be sure.

Anyways, I have a Casio FX-991ES Plus. The 991ES is the same, pretty much.

Any tips would be great!

I honestly don't think you can or should use a scientific calculator for that task. Why not use what you learn in you calculus class to compute a max or a min.

I've seen some pretty advanced scientific calculators that can do some differential equations.. I wouldn't be surprised if you could find max/mins with it.

Unfortunately, mike_302, I don't know how to do it through the scientific calculator, just through a graphing calculator (which I recommend you get if your calculus class recommends you have a calculator at all).

I understand what you mean by not using a calculator. But as long as I am allowed, I would kick myself if I didn't check over all of my answers with whatever means I have.
