Finding R(x) with area of a surface of revolution

Hi, I overall understand area of a surface of revolution for my calculus II course. My problem area is finding r(x). Does anyone know how to figure out r(x) in most situations when finding area of a surface of revolution? I have tried to teach myself the concept but am getting nowhere. I will appreciate help, thanks.
