$\displaystyle \int_{-2}^{1}\int_{x}^{2-x^2} f(x,y)~dy~dx$?

Is that what you are looking for?

I've literally translated the assignment in hope that some of the whizes here might make sense of it.

Well that would be my guess, maybe another more wordly member here may have a better perspective than I.

hmm, interesting. it would depend on at what level this question is being asked. if it is at the calculus 3 level, then it is probably something like what Mathstud said (we would perhaps need more information in this case, about the instructions you were given).

if it is calculus 1 or 2, then it is likely they are after something like this:

see the attached diagram. you want the integral to find the shaded region.
