Substitution Method

I am trying to help my nephew solve a problem using the substitution method. This was never my cup of tea in college. If someone could please help me show him how to do the problem step by step, your help would great appreciated.

x=y-1
y=4-2x

plug the value of x into the second equation to solve for y

hence,

y=4-2(y-1)
y=4-2y+2
y=4+2-2y
y+2y=6
3y=6
y=6/2
y=3

Plug that value back into the first equation to solve for x
x=3-1
x=2

Therefore, the solution is (2,3)
