Find the area of the region bounded by the x-axis and the cardiod r=1+cos(theta) from 0 to pi.
Can anyone give me some tips on how to approach this problem?

That's just the area of a region in polar coordinates right?
$\displaystyle A=1/2\int_{\theta_1}^{\theta_2} \left[f(\theta)\right]^2 d\theta$
Tips you say? The best I can think is to find this section in your calculus book, work through the one or two examples they'll have, then work through yours.
