Anyway, my initial thoughts are to square either side to get ride of the root sign, but that doesn't make things any easier.

I think it's better to write firstly this way : $x-2 \le \sqrt{x^2-9}$ and then to square it

However, be careful with the domain, since $x^2-9$ has to be positive.
Your answer will be in the form of intervals. So you'll have to take the intersection of these intervals with the domain.
