Does anyone know of a good way to better understand Fourier transformations? My book does not do a good job.

Go to your Institutes library. Find books that have Fourier Transform stuff related to what you're studying. Browse through them. Borrow the ones that are helpful to you (they will probably be the ones with detailed and easy-to-follow examples). Read the ones you borrow very carefully. Attempt the exercises.
