simpson's rule
Hi, in the table below are cross-sectional areas for a strip of soil every 7.2m in lg.

heres the table of the results

Distance (m) X-section Area (m2)
0.00 0.88
1.20 1.56
2.40 1.84
3.60 2.39
4.80 1.41
6.00 0.37
7.20 0.34

i need to find the volume to be excavated using the prismoidal rule. havent got a clue how to do it!
If someone could help me out as i have got to hand this assignment in later today!

Thanks PPL

This is the same as Simpson's rule.

$V \approx \frac{h}{3}[A_1+4A_2+2A_3+4A_4+2A_5+4A_7+A_7]$

So in this case h=120, and so:

$V \approx 40[0.88+4\times 1.56+2\times 1.84+4\times 2.39+2\times 1.41+4\times 0.37+0.34]$
