Thread: Need help setting up this problem....

A group of people have breakfast together before going to work. They calculate the tip to be $9.60, and from
that figure out each person’s individual share. Everyone counts the money, and tosses it in.
But it comes up short! One reason is that the boss did not contribute to the tip, because he paid for breakfast.
Another reason is that one of the group, Mr. P., refuses to tip because he doesn’t believe in it. To cover the two
non-contributors, everyone else has to put in an additional sixteen cents.
How many people ate breakfast?

9.60 / (n-2) - 9.60 / n = 0.16

Multiply by n(n-2) throughout, and solve the resulting quadratic equation.
