Dear All guys,
Recently I collect some data about the participants of Olympics"s
competitior from 1900 to 2004 . I want to optiminius the data and
calculate the formula and then predict the next data of year 2008. I
find out the quadratic formula. The following is the data :

1900 1904 1908 1912 1920 1924 1928 1932
997 651 2008 2407 2626 3089 2883 1332

1936 1948 1952 1956 1960 1964 1968 1972
3963 4104 4955 4135 5338 5151 5516 7170

1976 1980 1984 1988 1992 1996 2000 2004
6084 5179 6829 8391 9356 10318 10651 11099

The best way to handle this sort of problem is to do a quadratic regression. Do you have access to software or a calculator that does quadratic regression?

$Y = 11.58 X^2 + 147.858 X + 1391.26$ where X is the Olympic number (1900: X = 0, 1904: X = 1, .... 1920: X = 5, etc.). r^2 = 0.935.
