Is there a way to change a function (that not implicit) to implicit function?

An "explicit" function, of the form y= f(x), can always be changed to the "implicit function" F(x,y)= y- f(x)= 0. If that is not what you intend, please clarify your question.
Thanks. Are there other way except you show that do it? (one more operation!!!)
