There is no general way to solve any equation. Otherwise math would be too easy.

So be more specific. What type of PDE? Elliptic, parabolic, or hyperbolic equations?

Ahh ok. Well we havn't gotten to that part of the course yet (I've glanced at it when trying to do my homework set though) but we had an initial value problem in our homework but have really only convered the conservation law and then the heat/wave/diffusion equations so I was just wondering if I missed something.
