one other question, is there a way to find the relative minimum analytically? yes. find the formula for the function. find it's derivative and set it equal to zero. this will give the critical points, where a minimum may occur.
in this case, that option is not recommended. you will have to define it as a piece-wise function (here, it would have 4 pieces) and differentiate each piece and so on. too much work
