Thread: Word Problem with Rectangles

1) You have 100 yards of fencing with which to construct two adjacent and congruent rectangular pens. They will share one side.
-I was able to get up to forming the equation A(h)=h((100-3h)/(2)) but I am not sure how to continue the problem after that.

Any help with this problem will be much appreciated.

You can set it up in different ways

4x+3y=100...........[1]

2xy=A.............[2]

Solve [1] for y and sub into [2], differentiate, set to 0 and solve for x.
