# Math Help - Differentiation

1. ## Differentiation

Hi,

I am really stuck on how to finish each of these sums, I can only get so far and I am stuck.

The questions are as followsa) Differentiate each of the following functions, identifying any general
rules of calculus that you use, and simplifying your answers as far as
possible
(i) f(x) = e5xsec(x3) (−1/2pi < x3 < 1/2pi)

(ii) f(x) = ( ln(1 +x2)) / (arctan x) (x > 0)

This is what I have attempted so far:

Any help would be greatly appreciated

3. ## Re: Differentiation

What have you tried so far? I would suggest starting with the product rule for the first and the quotient rule for the second.

4. ## Re: Differentiation

Thank you both. I put up two pics of what I've tried but I'm guessing you can't see them. Ill try attach them to this message and if you could have a look and tell me what you think I would be very grateful.

5. ## Re: Differentiation

Arrgh it won't let me attach the pictures of what I've done so far? Anyone able to tell me why it won't let me please?

6. ## Re: Differentiation

From a digital camera, you usually get a .jpg or .jpeg file. You should be able to attach it with the "Insert Image" icon, selecting "From Computer" and then browsing to the file. You're right - whatever you're doing, we can't see the pictures.

If you can't get it to work, you can try to type it in - we can usually figure out what you're trying to say.

There's a tool that frequent posters use called LaTeX - here's a sample: $f(x)=e^{5x}\sec{x^3}$.

Thank you. My file was a jpeg but it just won't let me upload for some reason. Hopefully I'll get a chance to type it up tomorrow
