# Thread: area of triangle respect to diagonal

1. ## area of triangle respect to diagonal

Hi, i'm working on some review questions before finals and I can't seem to get this question started.

Q: Is it possible for the area to increase while the diagonal decreases of a rectangle

Thank you!

I will show you by an example of two rectangles:

area of the first rectangle A(1) = 4x8 = 32cm^2 ; diagonal = sqrt(8^2 + 4^2) = 8,94cm

area of the second rectangle A(2) = 6x6 = 36cm^2 ; diagonal = sqrt(6^2 + 6^2) = 8,48cm

do you get now?

3. ## Re: area of triangle respect to diagonal

I'm looking for a way to prove it looking at all possibilities, is there any other way to solve this? instead of using an example.

I feel there is more to this question. Thanks tho!
