1. ## Volume generated (integration)

The region bounded by the curve y=1/(1-12x), the line x=2, the x-axis and the y-axis is rotated completely about the y-axis. Find the volume of the solid generated.
Do i need to sketch the graph?

2. ## Re: Volume generated (integration)

It's usually a good idea to sketch the graph. If you're sure the problem's easy, then you can do without it. But you're essentially sketching the graph in your head, right?

Obviously, if the question asks for a sketch, you have no choice.

The denominator of your function is zero at $x=\frac{1}{12}$. I think your volume is still finite, but that makes the problem kind of weird - did you copy it correctly?

3. ## Re: Volume generated (integration)

I'm not sure, but when I'm trying to sketch the graph, it look weird........
And one question, is something wrong when denominator of function is zero at x=1/12 ?

4. ## Re: Volume generated (integration)

Holywood is right .There is something wrong with the curve .the line x=1/12 is a vertical asymptote .it cannot be rotated as such about the y-axis
