# Thread: Average value of a fundtion

1. ## Average value of a fundtion

Im trying to find the average value of this function,
S is the temperature of a bar
there isnt any values in the question so its proving difficult.

The bar is of length h units,
Fidn the mean value of S in terms of h

Can anybody see where i have gone wrong?

Thanks

Hey MMCS.

I can't see the pictures: Can you re-upload them?

3. ## Re: Average value of a fundtion

Sorry for the delayed reply, there is the equation. The mean value theorem is not too difficult, however, without the intervals given i dont know how to use the formual to derive the equation

Thanks

4. ## Re: Average value of a fundtion

So T= 120+ 232e^{-0.8x}. Not that hard to type. And you are told the interval- it is x= 0 to x= h. However, the "mean value theorem" will not help you find the average value of the figure- just tell you that there is a point where the temperature is equal to that average value. The average value of function f, from x= 0 x= h, is $\left(\int_0^h f(x)dx\right)/h$.

Do you have any knowledge of mathcad to help me with a worksheet for this?
