the derivative of any constant is zero

3. When I was teaching my classmates derivative back in highschool. I asked them what is the derivative of $e$, they were puzzled and said "is it $e$?". I total them "No", it is a number, and the derivative of a number is always zero. Then I ask them (immediately after that) what is the derivative of $\sqrt{e}$. And they say "well write it as $e^{1/2}$ ... ".

haha. i know what you mean. i encounter similar problems at the tutoring center. for some reason students always get confused when they see "e" or "ln" ... or logarithms in general for that matter
