Finding Concrete Canoe volume

I am trying to figure out the volume of concrete canoe, this will greatly help me later in my analysis of the canoe forces... I have made two graphs which explain the exact dimentions of the width and the depth of the canoe with 'y=' calculations portrayed in excel as well. I suspect multiple integrals need to be used but I cant quite figure it out. Any help would be appreciated... the excel files are attached

Re: Finding Concrete Canoe volume

Hey Scoop.

Have you had any experience with numerical integration schemes? Have you had experience with something like MATLAB (or the free version Octave)?

Re: Finding Concrete Canoe volume

Hey chiro,

I have done multiple integrations before but that was a long time ago and cant quite figure these out. I have used MATLAB before but am not proficient in it and havnt even heard of Octave....

Re: Finding Concrete Canoe volume

What you will want to do numerically is concentrate on how to find the volume of a thin slice and then add all of the slice volumes to get your total volume.

So with regards to your slice, what do you think is the best way to approximate each slice?

It will based on the cross section of the canoe at that point with the data you have and I'll wait for your response on how you think you should best model the approximation of this cross section (since the slice will just multiply this by the length of the slice itself along the canoe vertical section to get the volume for that slice).

You could use circles, but given the shape of a canoe there might be a better shape to use which is why I posed the question.
