I have done this equation numerous times and i keep getting the same answer. Can someone tell me where my mistake is? I keep getting a negative result and it should be positive. Also in step (6) is that how you get the GCD?

Uh, no it's not. Your solution is correct.
BTW, in step #3, you ought to indicate which pieces you're going to take the derivative of.
