# can a function intercept it's own vertical asymptotes?

can a function intercept it's own vertical asymptotes?

According to the materials provided by my school the answer to the above question is yes...but I fail to see how this could be given that (I thought) an asymptote means that the values of the outputs of the function never touch the prescribed asymptote.

For starters a relation that intersects itself is not single valued and thus cannot be a function...

That too, I had not thought of that point. Why in the world does my practice exam say that it can?
