    Help with Definitive Integrals and Probability


    I need help on how to solve these problems



    1.)






    2.) For a transnational rail line, the probability of a 10% rise in fuel costs in the next fiscal year is .2, and the probability of a 20% rise in personal healthcare cost is .3. Determine the probability of neither event occurring in the next fiscal year.

    Hey biglew404.

    You should show us what you tried but as a hint, if neither event occurs that is the same as (A OR B)^C (C means complement) which in probability terms is 1 - P(A OR B) where A and B are your events.

    Now from Kolmogorov axioms we have P(A OR B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B). Given this information, where do you think you can go from here?
