    differentiation as a linear transform

    I'm having trouble proving that differentiation of a real valued function is a linear transformation.can anyone help?

    If each of f and g is a differentiable function is it true that
     D_x (\alpha f + g) = \alpha D_x (f) + D_x (g)?
