    Exponential growth

    1) A bacteria culture grows with constant relative growth rate. After 2 hours there are 600 bacteria and after 8 hours the count is 75,000.

    a) find the initial population
    b)find the rate of growth after 5 hours

    I know that the formula is y = Ce^kt

    how do i do this problem when im not given a K and i have to solve for C, the initial value..

    You solve for them. That is why you are given two pieces of information.

    y = Ce^kt

    2 hours there are 600 bacteria

    600 = Ce^k(2)

    after 8 hours the count is 75,000.

    75000 = Ce^k(8)

    Use those two equations to solve for C and k.
