Is Complex Variables Simply Multivariable Calculus reloaded?

So hey, hello everyone. It's me, again..!

So this semester, I'm doing this course called Complex Variables.

My teacher described it to us as calculus with complex variables and I've somewhat agreed to this definition in the beginning.

I finished a multivariable calculus (aka vector calculus) last year with a reasonable grade, and each day I'm thinking of the two subjects as strikingly similar.

For instance he said next week I'm "going to learn" how to integrate over a contour, when I have actually already learned this (final test's subject).

Please, O' you with more math experience, help me to find an answer to this: looking back, are the two courses essentially the same? (Complex Variables vs. Multivariable Calculus)?

i didn't really want an answer btw

It starts off feeling the same, but by the end you'll encounter a lot of new things as well.
